  The concept of Food Smart was developed by nutritionists and health educators at the School of Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, led by Assistant Professor of Nutriti
on, Marci K. Campbell, Ph.D.

   Dr. Campbell's research focuses on nutrition    behavior change for health promotion and    disease prevention. She is currently    investigating:

  • The effectiveness of computer-generated, individually tailored nutrition education programs on dietary assessment and psychosocial theories of behavior change in promoting dietary changes for disease prevention

  • The use of a lay-health advisor approach to increase embedded social support for behavior changes aimed at reducing risk factors for low birth weight in a minority community
